Thank you for considering AMS as an option for your child's education! The Academy of Mathematics and Science (AMS) is currently enrolling for the 2011-2012 school year. AMS has high expectations for all students and knows that once you have a chance to visit our school, meet our teachers, and learn about our curriculum, you will know AMS is the right choice for your student.
To enroll at AMS, follow these four steps:
Step 1: Call (520) 293-2676 to schedule a personalized tour and meeting, OR fill out the form below.
Step 2: Fill out the enrollment package (available in English and Spanish). The enrollment package is also available in hard copy at the Front Office.
Step 3: After scheduling an appointment, come in to meet with school staff and have your student take the mathematics placement exam. Make sure to bring the completed enrollment package, as well as a copy of your student’s birth certificate, immunization records, and any recent standardized tests.
Step 4: We encourage all parents to get to know the school at our open house. For more information, please call (520) 293-2676, or see the bottom of this page.
Mid-year enrollments require a copy of the withdrawal form from the previous school.
To best serve students at AMS, a low enrollment cap and limited class sizes must be maintained. For kindergarten, no more than 17 students are enrolled per class, and for 1st through 12th grades, no more than 22 are enrolled per class. If by the application deadline, the number of applications exceeds the capacity of a program, class, grade level, or building, all applications for that program, class, grade level, or building are selected for available slots through a lottery. The lottery is a random selection process by which applicants on the waiting list are admitted to the schools. For example, if the number of fifth graders who apply before the end of the academic year reaches a point where there are more than 22 students in any given classroom, a lottery shall be initiated for placement. Siblings of students already admitted to, or attending, the same charter school are exempt from the lottery process.
Enrollment is on a first come, first served basis. AMS does not discriminate on the basis of ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, economic status, geographic location, disabilities, proficiency in the English language, etc. AMS admission and enrollment practices comply with all applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
AMS puts forth every effort to, “...inform students in the community about the charter school and to give each student an equal opportunity to attend,” (20 U.S.C. 7221b(b)(3)(I)). The school enrolls all eligible students who submit a timely application, unless the number of applications exceeds the capacity of a program, class, grade level, or building (A.R.S. 15-184).
