Even though our student teams consistently finished in the top third of all competitions, the three teams and events for which the Academy of Math and Science received special recognition are as follows:
5th Place for Storm the Castle where the team of Arturo Espinoza and Adrian Nevarez were required to build and calibrate a trebuchet and produce five graphs, a data table, and demonstrate the calculations needed for all calibrations.
5th Place for Battery Buggy where the team of Patrick Walker and Naser Jatoi were required to build a battery operated vehicle that had to drive around an obstacle and stop at a designated point. No external controls or breaking systems were allowed, and students had to calculate the curvature of their vehicle and calibrate the braking system.
8th place for Optics where the team of Reanna Lee and Adrian Nevarez had to take a test that covered adding and subtracting color, calculating the angle of incidence and reflections, drawing ray diagrams for flat and curved mirrors, calculating refraction and drawing diagrams for concave and convex lens, and setting up a laser and mirrors to hit a target.
Congratulations AMS Science Olympiad Team members and your coach Mrs. Hartley.
