Dear Parents, Believe it or not the 2009/2010 school year has come to an end. We are proud to say that it was a very successful year where AMS teachers and students worked together to achieve great results. During this year AMS students took top honors at various academic competitions such as the International Math Competition and the Southern Arizona Science Fair just to name a few. We are very proud of the accomplishments of your children. With these outstanding results in mind, we would like our students to keep their remarkable academic gains. Research has shown that keeping your children engaged in learning during breaks, increases their academic progress. To keep AMS students active during this summer we have assembled several enrichment materials that may help your child maintain the academic progress she/he has achieved this year. The enrichment items include: Home and School Connection, Reading Connection, a summer reading list, and a summer enrichment packet with great educational websites for your children (please click on to the link above).
Note the last pages list middle school sites and high school reading lists as it is critical that they too continue to move forward with their learning. The enclosed packet also includes: 1. Your child’s report card 2. The 2010-2011 school calendar 3. A copy of your child’s NWEA scores Another available enrichment tool for our students is StudyIsland.com, an engaging tutorial and assessment program based upon the Arizona academic standards for k-12 learning. This program provides web-based instruction, practice, assessment and instant feedback. The rigorous academic content that is both fun and engaging is research-based with proven results for all students; and is easy to use (in the lab, classroom, library or home).
Access to this great online resource is provided by AMS to your child free of charge. If your child has logged onto StudyIsland.com from AMS computers before, he or she may still remember his or her username and password to access the Website. If your child needs help for the username and password, please call the AMS Front Desk @ 520-293-2676 during normal business hours.
If you drive by the school this summer, you will see that we are working at giving the school a face lift along with other preparations for our next school year. We want the school to be ready for our students just as we want our students to be ready come fall for our renewed emphasis on college preparation and academic excellence. We are looking forward to an exciting new school year which begins Thursday, August 12, 2010.
We thank you for your continued support of AMS and wish you and your child a safe and joyful summer! Sincerely, _________________________________ Teresa Potter Principal-AMS
